Some of the favoured beaches in Zakynthos are Navagio Beach, Gerakas Beach, Kalamaki Beach, Porto Limnionas, plus many more. This is probably the most iconic beach in Greece, with white sand, towering cliffs, and a rusted shipwreck. It is best viewed from the Shipwreck Viewpoint or by boat tour. We recommend doing this in the early morning to avoid crowds.
There are plenty of excellent places to eat catering to locals and tourists. You will find some lovely restaurants where you can try traditional cuisine such as Zakynthian cheese (Ladotyri) and rabbit stew, alongside fresh seafood and local specialities. We also recommend visiting Grampsas Winery or Callinico Winery for delicious wine tastings.
Having a vehicle is a great way to get out and about to explore the island. You can drive through traditional mountain villages like Volimes and stop at hidden viewpoints and local tavernas.
The Blue Caves are natural sea caves with vibrant blue water reflections.They are best visited in the morning by small boat, kayak, or on a private charter where you can combine this with other activities.
A visit to Zakynthos Town is a must when you are staying on the island. Explore Solomos Square, St. Dionysios Church, and the Venetian Castle for history and beautiful views. You can also stroll along the harbour and enjoy fresh seafood.
If you’re hoping to catch a glimpse of the nesting loggerhead turtles on Zakynthos, between May and August is when they’re best for sighting. This is when they come to lay their eggs and the hatchlings begin to emerge, a truly wonderful sight to see.
This time of year still has lovely weather, with sunny skies and warm temperatures of 22-30°C. It is great for those looking to get out and active and enjoy the beaches on the island without the busy tourist crowds.
The weather during peak season is usually warm and dry with temperatures of around 27-35°C. This is the perfect time to enjoy the beach as well as the lively nightlife. Tourist levels will be at their highest at this time of year.
Winter is very quiet in Zakynthos. Temperatures reach around 12-20°C and the weather can be quite rainy. The island has a very peaceful atmosphere however many restaurants, bars and attractions will be closed for the season.
