There are many historical towns to visit including Norcia – a walled town surrounded by wonderful countryside. Norcia dates back to the Neolithic age and is the birthplace of the Patron Saint, St. Benedict. Nearby are plenty of hills, perfect for those that like to hike or maybe do a bike ride.
Monti Sibillini National Park is another popular tourist area – a wild and wonderful destination in Umbria. Dotted with medieval villages, lakes, and legends, it’s a popular destination for a host of outdoor adventures, such as hiking, biking, rock climbing, and canyoneering.
The hilltop town of Todi overlooks the picturesque Tevere Valley. Surrounded by three sets of walls, the town conceals many hidden treasures. Each wall was built in a different historical era: the innermost is Etruscan, the middle one Roman, and the medieval wall from the Middle Ages.
As with the rest of Italy, Umbria’s local delicacies are not to be missed. Visit vineyards & taste Sagrantino di Montefalco, a bold red wine from the region. Join a truffle hunting tour in Norcia, Umbria’s Culinary Capital and try Umbria’s specialities including Strangozzi al Tartufo, a handmade pasta with black truffle sauce as well as the street food favourite porchetta.

There are many festivals to attend throughout the year including the Umbria Jazz festival that takes place in Perugia in July, the Infiorata Flower Festival in Spello in June, and the Corsa dei Ceri in Gubbio, a crazy, adrenaline-filled race where locals carry huge wooden candles up the mountain.
Summer will be hot (28-35°C) although some respite can be found in the hill towns where it tends to be a little cooler. There are plenty of festivals to attend and it is a great time to be out on the lakes but the crowds will be at their peak.
Spring and Autumn have mild to warm temperatures of 15-27°C. It is the perfect time to explore the medieval towns without the summer crowds and in Autumn you can experience the harvest season for grapes, olives and truffles.
Winter has cooler temperatures of 5-15°C and mornings are often misty. Crowds will be significantly lower except during the Christmas markets where you can find Italy’s largest nativity scene in Assisi.
