Dominican Republic

Dominican Republic is the second largest island in the Caribbean and one of the most diverse. This island has become known for its welcoming hospitality, beautiful scenery and white sandy beaches. Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the north and the Caribbean Sea on the south, Dominican Republic has nearly 1000 miles of coastline and 250 miles of some of the best beaches, magnificent hotels and villas. A geographically diverse island, the Dominican Republic is home to the region’s tallest mountain peak, Pico Duarte, as well as the Caribbean’s largest lake and lowest elevation – Lake Enriquillo.

There is plenty to do on the island for those seeking a more active holiday – enjoy ecotourism adventures in the magnificent national parks and mountain ranges or enjoy a round of golf at one of the 25 designer golf courses on offer whilst enjoying breathtaking coastlines with mountain backdrops and lush green fairways.

Visitors to the island are recommended to visit the islands capital – Santo Domingo. This colonial city, recognised by UNESCO as a world heritage site, is where visitors can explore the cobblestone lanes that lead to many small museums, shops, restaurants and bars that are tucked away on every street. Other top destinations include Samana, La Romana, Puerto Plato and Punta Cana.

With direct scheduled flights with British Airways from London into Punta Cana, it is little wonder this is the popular choice for British visitors. Punta Cana boasts 25 miles of white sand, swaying coconut trees and crystal clear waters and is located on the western side of the island. La Romana is the islands third largest city situated on the south of the island, about a one-hour drive from Punta Cana Airport.

DINING, BARS AND NIGHTLIFE

Being one of the largest islands, there are plenty of restaurants to choose from with many culinary delights. The most popular in Punta Cana are those located beachside, including Huracan Café, Jellyfish and Soles (Bavaro), Captain Cook an Onno’s (El Cortecito), La Yola and Playa Blanca (Punta Cana) and La Palapa by Eden Rock (Cap Cana). There are many casino’s on the island that are located within a hotel complex, or alternatively guests may decide to enjoy the island vibes and head to one of the many bars / clubs.
