The Hamptons

The Hamptons, also called the “East End” of Long Island, are a group of villages and hamlets in the towns of Southampton and East Hampton, which form the South Fork of Long Island, New York. The area is a popular summer destination for affluent New Yorkers but also attracts visitors from further afield. Thousands escape the hot city each summer to Southampton and East Hampton and their many hamlets and villages, including Sag Harbor, Water Mill, and Bridgehampton. The area has miles of museums, quirky antique shops, and placid bays that are perfect for beach-combing.

Historically, the area has been devoted to agriculture and fishing. Many farms are still in operation in the area and there are three commercial vineyards operating in The Hamptons.

East Hampton is home to high-end restaurants, bars and designer boutiques and eating out is, of course, part of the Hamptons experience. However, in the peak seasons, restaurants do get booked up quite early so it is always advisable to book in advance. For those looking for something a little more casual, the area can also offer an array of superb takeaways, delis and food markets.
