The area is famed for its fresh seafood dishes like espeto de sardinas (grilled sardines) and fried fish platters. We also recommend visiting beachfront chiringuitos for authentic Spanish dining and pairing your meals with a glass of Málaga’s sweet wine or sangria.
This area is the playground of the rich and glamorous. Our top spots to see and be seen are Puerto Banús (Marbella) where you can spot luxury yachts, stroll around high-end shops, and enjoy upscale dining, and Benalmádena Marina, a lively hub with waterfront cafes and vibrant nightlife.
For nature enthusiasts a visit to El Torcal de Antequera is not to be missed. This surreal landscape of limestone formations is perfect for hiking and picnics. We also recommend a visit to Bioparc Fuengirola, a family friendly zoological park where animals live side by side in recreations of their natural habitats.
With over 70 golf courses, the Costa del Sol is often called the “Costa del Golf.” Top courses include Valderrama, La Cala, and Finca Cortesin.
Of course the main draw of the Costa del Sol is the beautiful sandy beaches. Some of our favourites include: Playa de La Malagueta (Malaga), a popular city beach with excellent facilities, Playa de Burriana (Nerja), known for its golden sands and beachfront dining and Playa de Cabopino (Marbella), a picturesque beach with natural dunes and clear waters.
With many small towns to explore, we love visiting Ronda which is famous for its dramatic gorge and historic Puente Nuevo bridge, Mijas Pueblo, a lovely whitewashed village perched on the mountainside with stunning views and of course Marbella’s Old Town where you can wander through narrow, flower-filled streets and discover Plaza de los Naranjos.
The weather is warm and sunny (25–35°C) making this time of year perfect for enjoying the vibrant beach scene, water sports, and lively nightlife, as well as exploring glamorous marinas like Puerto Banús in Marbella. Crowds are at their peak during the summer months.
Spring and Autumn are lovely times to visit the Costa del Sol. Spring is characterised by pleasant temperatures (18–25°C) and is the perfect time to explore with less crowds. Autumn temperatures remain warm (20–30°C) meaning beach days and golf are particularly enjoyable.
During the winter months the weather is mild (12–20°C) and the water is cooler, however this is a nice time to explore historical sites, play golf and hike without the large crowds. You can also enjoy festive holiday markets and celebrations in coastal towns.
