Famed for its postcard-perfect coastline dotted with photogenic beach resorts and pretty fishing villages, Majorca is the largest of the beautiful Balearic Islands. This holiday icon has been loved by travellers for years, offering a delightful mix of Spanish culture, beautiful beaches, and plenty of things to do.
When you choose a holiday in one of our Majorca villa holidays, you’ll be able to discover this perfect destination for yourself. Whether you’re visiting with your friends or family, the island is the perfect place to unwind and reconnect. With an increasing effort to share the island’s authentic side, you’ll be able to discover a dreamy destination from which to enjoy a luxury villa escape.
Majorca is mainly populated along its 550-kilometre coastline, with rolling plains, jagged mountains and a smattering of terracotta towns hidden away inland. There are beautiful beaches all around the island, with Playa de Muro and Playa de Alcudia standing out to the north of Majorca, and Platja d’es Carbo and Playa De S’amarador to the south.
The north coast of the island is perhaps its most appealing region, rich with pure sand beaches, charming towns and a laid-back vibe. It’s here that you’ll find some of the best luxury villas in Majorca to rent, home to private pools and impressive views of the surrounding scenery.
Take a step back in time and visit the charming town of Pollensa, where cobbled streets with pastel-shaded houses and traditional Spanish restaurants overlook a vibrant, boat-filled harbour that’s perfect for a slow sunset walk. Or dash along the coast to bustling Port d’Alcudia for a more modern take, with cosmopolitan bars, varied shopping and a family-friendly sweep of sandy beach.
Not too far away, you’ll find the famous Port de Sóller, home to an eclectic mix of colourful waterfront buildings and a buzzy yacht marina, all sheltered by a dramatic natural harbour. Once one of the best-kept secrets on the island, it’s still somewhere that you can find more secluded luxury Mallorca villas that are ideal for romantic trips.
Head down south, and you’ll find the island’s much-touted capital city of Palma. This golden-stoned metropolis stretches luxuriously along a sun-soaked coastline, with the majestic Palma Cathedral at the centre of the city front. In the labyrinthine streets surrounding this spectacular building, you’ll discover a mesmerising array of global designer shops, Spanish boutiques, and plenty of pavement cafes where you can stop for a refreshing glass of Sangria.
We couldn’t share a list of the best things to do in Mallorca without mentioning the island’s beaches one more time! Whilst almost every one of our Majorca luxury villas has its own pool, if you fancy swimming in the sea you have an incredible 262 beaches to choose from, which range from private beach clubs with pristine parasols and loungers to hidden coves that are only accessible on foot.
If you’re looking for a chance from beach scenery, then there’s plenty of natural beauty to be discovered in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains. The villages here are incredibly picturesque and a lovely place to spend an afternoon exploring (we suggest Deià), but there are also a range of established hiking trails that you can explore if you want to traverse the terrain on foot.
Covering an area six times larger than neighbouring Ibiza, it’s no surprise that there’s a huge variety of activities and pursuits to enjoy on villa holidays in Majorca. From exhilarating waterparks to sea surfing, and from horse riding to coastal cycling, you’ll find plenty to keep you active.
Majorca also has miles of café-fronted promenades, new and exciting restaurants, designer shopping, and much more in its various towns and villages. We suggest trips to Port d’Alucida, Port de Sóller and Arta, taking time to appreciate the architecture and also stopping at local cafes and restaurants to enjoy a drink and a chance to refuel.
Whilst the capital city of Palma is probably not where you’ll want to stay if you’re planning a Majorca villa rental holiday, it’s still worth a visit for the day. The Catedral-Basílica de Santa María is a sightseeing highlight, but we also recommend that you visit the markets, take a trip to a church or two, and make the most of the city’s diverse range of places to eat and drink.
As well as the many interesting sites in Palma, including the majestic La Seu Cathedral, the Royal Palace of La Almudaina, and the circular Bellver Castle, it is also worth visiting the Cuevas del Drach which are impressive caves featuring underground lakes and stunning rock formations.
The best time of year to visit Mallorca if you’re seeking the sunshine is summer, particularly July or August. At the peak of summer, temperatures are often above 30°C during the day and there is very little chance of rain, giving you plenty of opportunities to enjoy the hot weather on the beaches around the island.
If you prefer your holiday weather to be a little less scorching, early autumn is the best time to visit Mallorca with temperatures ranging from 24-28°C. Not only will it be cooler but still bright on any sunny day, but the island will also feel less busy in September and October, which is great if you’re planning a trip with the intention of relaxing. Late spring is another great time to visit Mallorca to avoid the peak season crowds, with the cooler weather (19°C to 24°C) and blossoming landscape creating the perfect setting for more active holidays involving hiking or cycling.
If you come to the island over the winter months you won’t get as much Mediterranean sunshine and temperatures will only reach around 15°C, but you will enjoy a more authentic feeling due to the off season for tourism. Please keep in mind some restaurants and attractions will be closed during this season.
