Šibenik is a coastal town often overlooked by visitors but has some pretty sights, including the UNESCO listed Cathedral of St James. The area boasts some excellent restaurants including one of the few Michelin starred restaurants in the country, Pelgrini. It is a lovely area to enjoy a peaceful villa holiday in Croatia.
Šibenik is located along the Dalmatian coast where the Krka River meets the Adriatic Sea and is overflowing with history, culture and natural beauty. Unlike many Dalmatian towns, Šibenik was founded by Croats rather than Romans or Greeks, which gives it a unique local character all its own. A popular site to visit is the UNESCO-listed Cathedral of St. James, a Renaissance masterpiece crafted entirely from stone and renowned for its distinctive sculpted faces and domes.
Visitors can wander through the stone alleyways of the Old Town, past centuries-old churches, charming squares, and up to the city's impressive fortresses including St. Michael’s and Barone, which offer spectacular views over the rooftops and bay beyond. Šibenik is also a gateway to Krka National Park, famous for its cascading waterfalls and scenic walking trails, just a short drive inland.
The area has an emerging food scene, with both relaxed waterfront restaurants and cafes and one of the country's only Michelin star restaurants, Pelgrini which serves local produce and traditional Dalmatian cuisine at its best.
