If you’re a fan of getting active on your holidays, the Troodos Mountains are a great place to go hiking to immerse yourself in the island’s inland scenery and admire incredible views of the surrounding area. If you’re staying by the coast, there are plenty of watersports opportunities including paddleboarding and snorkelling, as well as various options to sail along the coast on a tour or a private charter.
If historic sightseeing is top of your list, The Tombs of the Kings in Paphos is an ancient necropolis, whilst Kourion near Limassol is an impressive site featuring a well-preserved theatre. Paphos is also home to Nea Pafos and Palaipafos archaeological sites, but one of the most impressive spots on the island is Choirokoitia in Larnaka, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

In the area you can also visit Omodos & Lefkara villages, traditional stone villages famous for wine, lace-making, and charming streets as well as Kykkos Monastery, one of the most important religious sites in Cyprus, with beautiful frescoes.
If you are staying near Limassol there are several sites to visit including Kourion, a spectacular Greco-Roman amphitheatre overlooking the sea, and Kolossi Castle which is a medieval fortress with links to the Crusaders. If your base is Pahpos then a visit to the Tomb of the Kings is recommended, UNESCO-listed ancient tombs that have been carved into rock.
One of the best things about a holiday to Cyprus is the delicious food. Trying a meze platter is a must, but make sure you go hungry as it includes many dishes including halloumi, souvlaki, grilled meat and seafood. You can also visit local producers and olive groves to try artisan olive oil and learn about traditional haloumi cheese making.
If you have a car then we recommend a visit to Nicosia. You can walk through the Old Town and discover Venetian walls, colourful streets, and charming cafés as well as Crossing the Green Line, the world’s last divided capital, offering a unique blend of Greek and Turkish Cypriot culture. Both Limassol and Paphos have a great selection of trendy bars, rooftop lounges, and stylish beach clubs. Aiya Napa has a reputation as one of the best party destinations in Europe and has a jam-packed calendar of events over the summer.
There are several wineries to visit in the Limassol Wine Region as well as the Troodos foothills. We recommend trying Commandaria, one of the world’s oldest wines, dating back to ancient times.
Shoulder season can also be a lovely time to visit. Things start to pick up around Easter with more restaurants and bars opening and temperatures climbing to 18 - 25°C. Autumn is still warm (25–32°C), including the sea and is perfect for quieter beaches and exploring without the large crowds.
Summer in Cyprus has hot and dry weather, with temperatures between 30–38°C. It is perfect for beach lovers wanting to swim, snorkel and enjoy water sports. Bars and restaurants will be buzzing and crowds will be at their highest.
Winter in Cyprus is mild, with temperatures around 15–20°C on the coast and rain is more likely. It is significantly quieter and is great for hiking and exploring, however many restaurants, bars and attractions are closed for the season.
