Anguilla
The total land area is only 35 square miles but offers some of the best beaches in the Caribbean with glistening turquoise waters. Anguilla has over 33 pristine unspoilt beaches and over 12 miles of beautiful, white powder sand and tranquil crystal-clear waters.
Anguilla is flat, low-lying and comprised of coral and limestone. There is one main road, which runs through the middle of the island, making Anguilla easy to travel by car and explore this magical island.
DINING, BARS AND NIGHTLIFE
Anguilla is not only known for its stunningly picturesque beaches, but for its selection of cuisine. The island has an award-winning dining selection that offers visitors international sophistication and creative cuisine, fusing local flavours and produce with quality imports. Foodies and wine connoisseurs rejoice at the island’s magnificent selection. With over a hundred places to dine boasting some of the Caribbean’s most talented chefs, from fine dining to simple and tasty roadside barbeques and beachside bistros, you are spoilt for choice.
When the sun goes down, Anguilla offers a unique mix of entertainment venues. There are no casinos, flashing lights or tourist traps, so entertainment here is far more authentic, whether it be a one of a number of beach bars dotted around the island or venues with live music there is always somewhere to party the night away. Sandy Ground is popular and offers a chic and casual feel every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Pumphouse offers reggae and casual dining and Johnnos on a Sunday is the place for lunch and Jazz.
On the east end, the small island in Island Harbour, Scilly Cay, continues to host A-listers and celebrities between its conch shelled walls and thatched canopies. And Palm Grove, at the end of Savannah Bay at Junk’s Hole is still a secret hideaway. Crocus Bay and DaVidas Bay Side grill is a hot spot for lunch and some great music and head to Rendezvous Bay and the legendary Bankie Banxs, at the Dune Preserve is not to be missed.
GETTING THERE
There are no direct flights from the UK to Anguilla. The main gateway used by British visitors is Antigua and from there, LIAT provides one scheduled flight per day into Anguilla. Sometimes an overnight stay may be required in Antigua if the flights do not connect.
Other popular gateways include Puerto Rico, St. Maarten/Martin and St. Kitts. From Puerto Rico, Anguilla is just a one-hour direct flight via Cape Air or Rainbow International Airlines. The nearest gateway is St. Maarten/Martin – just a seven-minute flight via Trans Anguilla Air Services or private charter. Visitors can also opt for a boat ride from St. Maarten/Martin.
